Inspiration II (2023)
Inspiration II (2023) is a handmade film, crafted out of a crazed fervor in less than two months in a home studio with an almost nonexistent budget. This film is an experimental tribute and biography to Larry “Lawnchair” Walters who, in 1982, embarked on a 45 minute journey 16,000 feet in the air, in a homemade aircraft made of 45 helium filled weather balloons and a lawnchair.. The artist tributes Larry Walters with an invention mirroring his homemade aircraft - a motorized Praxinoscope depicting his lawnchair rising above the clouds. The film, pieced together with footage from the David Letterman Show, real footage of the historical event, and audio sourced from Car Talk, follows Larry’s journey after his journey, and the consequences of achieving a life-long dream.
Salmon Cannon (2020)
In the early 2000s, Whooshh Innovations developed the technology to safely and effectively transport salmon to their spawning grounds, regardless of geography, height of obstacle, and changing water levels. This invention, the Whooshh Passage Portal, affectionately nicknamed the “salmon cannon”, is a flexible, pressurized tube that transports salmon across organic and man-made obstacles.
Salmon Cannon is a mixed-media short film that follows a salmon swept up on the journey of a lifetime. The salmon is unexpectedly launched past everything he has ever known and loved, witnessing a world he never experienced before, possibly seeing the meaning of life itself, and inevitably deposited to his new home. Through the experience of being abruptly transported away from his home and sent traveling through different worlds, his perspective is permanently changed for the better.
This is an interdisciplinary experimental film that follows the salmon’s odyssey through the changing of artistic mediums to represent unknown environments and experiences. The media used includes a juxtaposition of digital 2D animation with physical media such as cut paper, clay, and puppeted stop motion, direct on 35mm film, live action projection, and a phenakistiscope.
